Mental Health First Aid Training -

Workplace Specialist

 

Your facilitator, Julie Gillespie, is an Accredited Principle Master Instructor and workplace specialist with an Executive MBA and Lived Expertise with mental ill health. 

 

In addition to learning about Mental Health First Aid and it's frameworks, you will also gain the skills to be more comfortable and confident having conversations with someone who is showing signs of change.

 

Julie runs an interactive course where there is co-designed safety, inclusivity, and openness.

Standard Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA)

Workplace Focus

The 12-hour face-to-face course for adults (18-years+).


Following the Standard MHFA format, we use workplace scenarios to focus the conversations to be supportive of co-workers who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.

 

This course provides a 3-year accreditation on successful completion of an online, competency based quiz.

Note: This course is not a therapy or a support group.

Duration: 2 days

Blended Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA)

Workplace Focus

 

The Blended course utilises an eLearning component coupled with facilitator guided sessions.

 

This program is workplace focused using scenarios that inspire conversations to be supportive of co-workers who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.

This course provides a 3-year accreditation on successful completion of an online, competency based quiz.

  • Blended: Self guided eLearning (6-7-hours) +
    in-house, face-to-face training (6-hours)

  • ONLINE Blended: Self guided eLearning (6-7-hours) + virtual training (2 x 4-hour sessions)

Refresher Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA)

Refresher courses are 5-hour courses that allow people who are currently accredited MHFAiders to refresh their knowledge and skills. The refresher course offers the opportunity to extend their accreditation for a further 3 years.

Formats: Virtual or face-to-face (in-house or our training facility in West End, Brisbane)

MHFA Engaging Leaders Workshop

This workshop will help leaders, decision makers and influencers understand the benefits that MHFA can offer in helping to create mentally healthy workplaces. Workshop content covers:

  • An understanding of mental health problems in the workplace

  • How to recognise the signs in an employee who may be developing a mental health problem

  • How Mental Health First Aid can help in the workplace.

Duration: 90-minutes face-to-face or virtual

MHFA Conversation about Suicide

 

The Mental Health First Aid Conversations about Suicide course is for any interested adult.
You will learn the skills and acquire the knowledge required to safely have a conversation with a suicidal person.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

Duration: 4-hour face-to-face only

Mental Wellbeing Training

Mental Health Awareness Workshop

 

This course gives participants an opportunity to understand what Mental Health is and when you should become concerned for someone. In this course you will:

  • Learn what Mental Health is, the facts and the factors which affect it

  • See how stigma is a barrier to getting essential support and discover ways to overcome it

  • Understand the different mental disorders and their signs and symptoms

  • Learn to start a conversation with someone in distress and keep yourself safe

  • Know what resources are there to support you.

 

Duration: 1 hour face-to-face course

Mental Wellbeing Training

Connecting to Wellbeing Workshop

 

This workshop designed for workplace teams, gives participants an opportunity to understand what Wellbeing is and how to get Connected and Thrive. It is adapted to the organisation’s values and mission. 

In this workshop participants will:

  • Undertake pre-session work that helps them identify their strengths that energise them, and those that don’t (start to decode these)

  • Come to understand Wellbeing and its connection to our Mental Health

  • Know what the elements of Wellbeing are

  • Connect to these elements in a pragmatic way

  • Understand how values drive us

  • Know what resources are there to support this journey.

Duration: 3-hours face-to-face course
